The project ‘Senhora da Alegria Bio-Reserve: a conservation project for the benefit of the territory and the community’, financed by the Portuguese Environmental Fund, enabled Milvoz to carry out a series of management and ecological recovery actions in the Senhora da Alegria Bio-Reserve, involving local communities, publicising and promoting its extensive natural values and developing environmental education and awarenessinitiatives. With the aim of solidify our actions, Milvoz counted on the support of the company Eco Sapiens. Together, we reinforced the insight of this Bio-Reserve as a well-preserved asset resistant to threats, enhancing its role as a platform to share experiences and knowledge.

In this context, Milvoz has been able to carry out a series of actions that allowed:

More than 5,000m2 of intervention area in the Senhora da Alegria Bio-Reserve
-
Willow trees staking and habitat restoration by promoting the natural regeneration of native plants along the Polomos creek
-
Construction of 3 ponds
-
Inventory of the biodiversity occurring in the Bio-Reserve, culminating in the recording of 188 species of fauna and 230 species of vascular flora
-
Organisation of more than 20 volunteer activities, involving more than two hundred people
-
Organisation of 14 guided tours through the Bio-Reserve
-
Presence at 13 dissemination sessions at local, regional and national events
-
Organisation of 4 workshops with the University of Coimbra and the Coimbra School of Agriculture
-
19 environmental education and awareness-raising sessions in schools, involving more than 680 students from different school years
-
Organisation of a regional meeting that stressed the importance of micro-reserves in nature conservation
-
Production of a Guide to the Flora and Fauna of the Bio-Reserve and a Guide to Good Management and Ecological Restoration Practices
-
Production of materials to publicise the project, including videos, brochures, exhibitions, T-shirts and seed bags​​​

The project finished in November 2023. However, its important effects will endure over time due to the strong citizen involvement and the power of the dissemination of the actions that we carried out.

The materials produced include the digital editions of the Guide to the Flora and Fauna of the Senhora da Alegria Bio-Reserve and the Guide to Good Management and Ecological Restoration Practices.
