The Senhora da Alegria Bio-Reserve was the scene of yet another set of activities to preserve its rich ecosystem. In the most recently acquired areas, there is a sector that is dominated by an acacia forest. In its operating philosophy, Milvoz favours the acquisition of priority and urgent conservation areas, so that it can safeguard them as quickly as possible. At the same time, and as a complement to this approach, the association also acquires degraded areas around well-preserved strongholds, promoting their ecological restoration and neutralising possible threats, such as the presence of invasive exotic species.

And it was precisely with this mission in mind that we welcomed two very special groups: our friends from the Marionet theatre group and a unit of employees from Nsol / Grab&Go!

Starting with a brief overview of the ecological, landscape and historical characteristics of the Almalaguês region, we were able to make the participants aware of the reality in which Milvoz carries out its project, often loaded with challenges. We also got to share with them the main species that occur in the region, so that it was possible to compare the degraded scenery of the surroundings with the contrasting reality of the heart of the Senhora da Alegria Bio-Reserve forest. It speaks for itself when you venture into it... Thousands of shades of green, flowers of all colours and a symphony of different bird species characterise our entrance into the forest and no one remains indifferent to it.

After this moment of contemplation and reflection, it was time to start working. The invaded areas were waiting for the precious help of the visitors, who made an important contribution to the exotic species' control. It's a demanding job, whose results will only be evident in the long term, and it's not over...
