This summer, Milvoz saw one of its most significant projects severely affected. The Vale da Aveleira Integral Bio-Reserve burned badly, with only a small fraction of the forest surviving the flames. Now, with the heavier rains, it was the turn of the Senhora da Alegria Bio-Reserve to be damaged by another phenomenon: a large landslide affected a section of the forest and compromised the current route of the trail that climbs the hillside and connects the Bio-Reserve to the Senhora da Alegria Chapel.

The heavy rains that fell in late autumn caused erosion of the sandy soils of the Bio-Reserve along a temporary water runoff line, leading to a major landslide. The steep slope amplified the scale of this phenomenon, which swept large amounts of soil into the bottom of this valley adjacent to Polomos' stream.

This incident affected the historic pilgrimage trail to the Chapel of Senhora da Alegria and seriously compromised its safety. This situation led Milvoz to close the trail to ensure the safety of walkers.

We will now need some time to study solutions so that the path can be used safely and you can once again enjoy this wonderful forest!
