Promoting the fundraising campaign for the post-fire restoration of Vale da Aveleira has been a priority for Milvoz over the last few months. We maintain a regular online presence but seek to complement this with in-person interventions at events related to the area in which we operate.

We were in Albergaria-a-Velha for the 9th edition of Biofórum, organised by the Bioliving Association, with the motto ‘Biodiversity and Fire’. We showed the Vale da Aveleira before and after the fire, focusing on the urgent need for intervention to control invasive species, which are now sprouting throughout the forest. If Milvoz does not have the necessary capacity to act on this threat, the future of Vale da Aveleira could be seriously compromised.

We were also speakers at the 1st Technical Conference on Forest Restoration, held at the Higher School of Agriculture of Coimbra. As at several other events we attended, we presented the general outline of the crowdfunding campaign underway for the post-fire regeneration of our Integral Bio-Reserve.
We highlighted that, despite the widespread destruction, with the centuries-old forest reduced to a fraction of its former size, the way it burned was due to extreme temperature (over 40ºC) and wind conditions (very strong gusts). Even so, when compared to the surrounding area, the Bio-Reserve burned less intensely than the pine, acacia and heather forests on the outskirts, which were completely charred.
